Disney Princess Squad Goals (Free Printable)

Disney Princess #SquadGoals (free printable)

Hello!

I’m a little embarrassed that this is my first post of the new year, and it is already APRIL. Truth is, I’ve been working hard on a very exciting project! For now it is top secret, but all will be revealed at the end of the year. So apologies for my absence, but also a huge thank you to all of you who have continued to read Magpie DIY. I’ve been truly blown away by how popular this seems to be, and by how many of you have kept coming back for more. I promise things will become more regular round here from now on.

To show my appreciation, I wanted to share this printable I made last month. April is a busy month in my family, with a silly number of birthdays clustered together. One of which is my little sister’s 21st (today! Happy birthday Pixie!). Crazy to think. #SquadGoal culture is everywhere right now (thanks Tay-Tay (Swift, obv)), with my favourite incarnation being that of the Disney princesses. My little sister loves all things Disney, so when I found this t-shirt, my thoughts went straight to her. Buuut, I wasn’t crazy about the style of the shirt and suspected it would have been relegated to the pyjama pile. I wanted to create something a little more grown up (she is 21 today, after all), eventually deciding on chic, framed wall art.

Anthropologie-Inspired Pom Pom Garland Tutorial

Anthropologie-Inspired Pom Pom Garland

I’m on a constant mission to make my home super cosy and chic, and one shop that fulfils this brief is Anthropologie. Their quirky wares speak to me (specifically “Buy me! Buy me!”) and often have me thinking about their pieces long after they sell out. So when Christmas decorations started appearing on their site, I took note. I fell in love with this adorable tree topper and a pom pom garland that has since sold out. My tree is currently lacking tinsel, so I decided to recreate the pom pom garland – the tree topper can wait for another day.

Once the festive season has subsided (sob), I will be hanging this garland along my shelf for a fuzzy touch to my living room.

Giganticandle Tutorial

Giganticandle

I am now a grown up. And by grown up, I mean I own (and actually use) candles. I recently bought this monogrammed votive candle , promptly burnt it to the wick and then became sad that my new favourite candle was gone.  I wanted more, but didn’t fancy a trip to the supermarket every few days. Candles always feel very indulgent, but I felt this could be exaggerated even more by creating a huge window-display worthy version of my own.

H.O.T.T Air Balloon Chandelier Tutorial

H.O.T.T Air Balloon Chandelier

Every so often, a motif comes along that defines a season: the swallow a few years ago; the pineapple last year… Lately I’ve seen a whole lot of hot air balloons, from tattoos to centrepieces, and I have to admit, I’m smitten. There’s something about a hot air balloon that I find whimsical and almost other-worldly. In my infatuation, I spent a lot of time on Pinterest, which led me to discover these (be still my beating heart). I never really ‘got’ the steampunk thing, but these delicate light bulbs have certainly changed my mind.  In keeping with the whimsicality that so draws me to hot air balloons, I decided to create a chandelier of decorated light bulbs, complete with fluffy clouds.

Kiki de Montparnasse-Inspired Tutorial

Kiki de Montparnasse-Inspired Pillowcases

I once saw a supermodel strutting through the airport with a pillowcase emblazoned with ‘sleep’ on one side and ‘fuck’ on the other. I thought it (and she) was the coolest thing I’d ever seen. In my newfound mission to model myself on her (pun intended), I immediately began my online hunt, only to be disappointed when I learnt that coolness came at a price: £100 to be precise. I don’t have a spare £100 lying round, and if I did, I certainly would not spend it on a single pillowcase. So in true Magpie style, I decided to fashion my own.
