Alaïa-Inspired Boots
When I caught the DIY bug, one of the first things I made was a pair of studded boots. It was around the time that Zara released this pair that I decided I MUST own bedazzled boots. For some reason, I had it in my head that the Zara boots were in fact Alexander Wang, and that I would never be able to afford them, and so I made these. I loved them, my friends loved them, and we still wear them years later (love a good DIY that stands the test of time!). Back when studded boots were the shoe to be seen in, I saw Rosie Huntington-Whiteley rocking this Alaïa pair, and knew I wanted in.
Top of the Crops
Since the 80’s, those in the Goth community have been DIYing their own clothes to create unique pieces that fit their aesthetic. In an era where crop tops ruled, and fluoro thrived, Goths began shredding their hosiery for their own take on the fashion zeitgeist. This tutorial couldn’t be any simpler, so it’s a wonder it’s not more mainstream – though I suppose this would contradict the subculture’s nature!
Eyelet That Sink In
The eyelets that dominated the Mugler show are filtering through to the high street – making it high time they made an appearance on Magpie DIY. The hardware juxtaposes industrial influences with luxe vibes, meaning that you can style for either end of the spectrum. And who doesn’t love a multitasking piece? Add to that the use of a hammer and you get a show-stopping top with in-built stress relief!
Made You Luxe
Welcome to the first edition of my new series: Made You Luxe. Whilst I created Magpie DIY as a platform through which to share my designer-inspired DIY tutorials, I reasoned that there were some great pieces already on the high street that fulfil the Magpie DIY ethos, but wouldn’t translate well into a tutorial. In this series, I’ll be showcasing the pieces I’m loving, but can’t quite work my magic on (hey, we all have our limits).
